Surprise! Diddy, D12, and Lloyd Banks Just Dropped Relatively Dope Mixtapes

I know, I know! Trust me, we were as shocked as you are. Now, let's get this straight, we are declaring this as three of the top mixtapes of the year or anything.

However, they are pretty dope. If you only have time to listen to one, then listen to that D12... then Banks... then Diddy.

The strength of Diddy's album is that it features MCs like Jada Kiss, King Los, Styles P, and Big Sean.

Introducing Dr. Dre's New Compton Crew | The Funked Up Experimental Soul Sounds of Anderson .Paak

Anderson .Paak - Venice (2014)
Purchase at Itunes

We aren't going out on much of a limb stating the Dr. Dre's new album Compton: A Soundtrack is dope as AF. Two things strike us as interesting about the album though.

First, although traces of the Dre signature west coast G Funk sound can be found, this album is strikingly experimental in the production and song writing. We are forced to speculate whether the boundary pushing Kendrick Lamar has something to do with this. Needless to say, the album is sonically and thematically pleasing.

Second, other than the three KDot joints, Compton is stunningly absent the blockbuster names and usual suspects. Sure, Snoop, Cube, Em, and X to tha Z get some shine on a few tracks but nothing like the the power contributions on the Chronic 1 & 2.

Thoughts on Being White | Ferguson A Year Later: A Look Back and a Hope Forward

One year ago, the murder of Michael Brown set off a wave of political, social, and racial consciousness and protest that our generation has never witnessed.

Despite the overwhelming state-sponsored violence against black, Latino, Latina, and native Americans that has has been captured via social media, white Americans are still hiding behind the rhetorics of color-blindness, post-racial America, victim blaming, and self-willed ignorance.

San Diego Street Conscious Hip Hop | Reclaim The Community Mixtape (Ft. Tiny Doo)

"This CD is really just a reflection of movements that are currently happening all over the U.S.," Edison says. "The street rappers and hip-hop artists are the voice of those people. It's the natural outcome of that larger desire for self-determination that you'll see all through southeast San Diego."

Most of the artists featured on the album are native to southeast San Diego, and those that aren't still have close ties to the southeast community. But regardless of ZIP code, Edison says that the message of the compilation is bigger than the district. - SD CityBeat

The Christian's Confusion | Idolatry and White Privilege: The White Evangelical Church in America

"Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder." James 2:18-19

Facebook post made after announcement
Ferguson grand jury verdict

The responsibility to end racial oppression resides in white hearts, minds, actions, language, and institutions.

The American institution with the most power to oppress that also has the most power to reshape white hearts, minds, actions, language, and institutions is the white Christian church.

I am always encouraged by those white American evangelicals that, showing their faith by their deeds, call attention to the reality of white privilege and the continuing significance of and damage caused by racism.

Cincinnati Hip Hop | Scribbling Idiots - Move Out

For the Hip Hop Heads | Jay-Z - Pre-Reasonable Doubt Demo Tape (Circa 1994)

You may want to download this one sooner than later since it appears the major labels are still afraid of the internets - it has already been taken down from a number of sites.

Supposedly (obtaining our truth from the internet), this tape showcases young Jigga spitting hot fire (Dylan Voice) in 1994, a few years before the release of his seminal Reasonable Doubt debut album.
