Cincinnati Hip Hop | Space Invadaz - "Gun Show"

The WhatUpWally? office was pleasantly surprised when our newest intern, Jessica from Toronto, opened her mailbox to an email announcing the first Space Invadaz release through Javotti.

We're gonna let the Javotti PR squad handle the description on this one:
"Space Invadaz is a collaborative Hip Hop project created by Cincinnati MCs Donte (of the group, MOOD) and Buggs Tha Rocka. Contact, a free 14 song mixtape, will be available in the Spring of 2016. Space Invadaz is on mission to challenge the boxes that Hip Hop music is continuously pushed into, while shining a long overdue spotlight on Cincinnati Hip Hop culture. Meet Space Invadaz.
An internationally known MC, Donte, along with MOOD, released the critically acclaimed album DOOM in 1997, which was the first album ever to feature music from Talib Kweli and Hi Tek of Reflection Eternal. MOOD’s success allowed Donte to tour the world and work with many legendary artists from J Dilla to Wu-Tang Clan.

Buggs Tha Rocka, an MC who grew up as a fan of MOOD, carved out his own musical path, starting in 2009 with the release of his Mick Boogie hosted mixtape Hip Hop Supa Hero. Met with rave reviews, Buggs followed up Hip Hop Supa Hero with his debut album Mutant Level 5, which boasted appearances by SAS, Freeway, Tanya Morgan and Little Brother. In 2011, Buggs released a pair of mixtapes with Mac Miller’s DJ, DJ Clockwork, entitled Lost Luggage and Wrath of Zeus, respectively. This incredible output has seen Buggs tour with Talib Kweli and open for acts like Wiz Khalifah, Big Sean, Method Man and Redman and many more. Buggs has also won the Cincinnati Entertainment Award for Hip Hop Artist of the year, for the last two years in a row.
MOOD, with the help of legendary Cincinnati producer Hi Tek, raised the bar for their city when they dropped their debut album, DOOM. While MOOD continues to tour and create, Donte and Buggs that Rocka linked up to expand on the city’s musical legacy.

As the OG of the group, Donte brings a timeless flow and worldly experience. He is the anchor. Buggs brings a clear eyed focus and drive to the table and constantly creates new spaces for the music to be heard in. He is a passionately gifted MC who shows respect to those who came before him while creating something new.

Currently, Space Invadaz is working on their debut album, Planet Chaos. In the meantime, they have put together Contact, a free offering that showcases Donte and Buggs Tha Rocka’s musical vision.

The first single off of Contact is A Man And His Gun, a commentary on America's love affair with gun violence, produced by Supa Dave West. With exciting, timely songs that address a wide array of subjects and tracks that are undeniably fresh regardless of what kind of music you enjoy, Space Invadaz introduce you to a brand of Hip Hop that you never heard before but is so good that it will feel instantly familiar.

With featured appearances by Talib Kweli, M1 of dead prez, Chace Infinite of Self Scientific, and production by Hi Tek, Issa Walker and more, Contact takes the listeners from Cincinnati, Ohio, to outer space and back. It is a passionate, engaging piece of work that will whet the audience’s appetite for the full length LP and much more!"
