This is a response to a few ignorant responses on a recent Facebook post (and many Facebook posts like it).
"Racism" is a system of racial oppression that benefits white people by granting them the privileges of whiteness.
The whole system is built on anti-black (and anti- other people that are negatively racialized as non-white) ideology, stereotypes, and other justifications for the treatment of black people as inferior.
Racism is a system of white power and black oppression. Blacks and other "people of color" lack the institutional and systemic power to racially oppress white people - - thus racism is not something that blacks and people of color can enact against white people.
SO NO - not everyone can be "racist."
Racism is anti-black and anti- other racialized people considered "not white."
The system of racial oppression is global. The "Western" "European" "Amerikkkan" world was constructed as white and superior because of it's whiteness to justify the exploitation, murder, genocide, rape, and torture of the "non-western" world that was constructed as "black" or "not white" and thus inferior.
--------------
When you talk about "anyone can be racist" "reverse racism" "racism against whites" you are regurgitating rhetorical tropes created by explicit white supremacists (from the Klan to the Nixon administration) to deny the continuing significance of race and racism in Amerikkka.
--------------
Most of you don't know the history you were taught nor the history you weren't taught and have no clue where your words and ideas come from.
Your ignorance is understood when you don't know but you have now been given an introductory lesson. You are no longer ignorant.
If you choose to ignore these teachings and continue to regurgitate the rhetorical tropes of white supremacy then you are now held accountable as an unrepentant white supremacist.

I have spent the last decade studying this shit in depth so I have no desire to argue with people that haven't researched or experienced the issues of race and racism AND HAVE NO DESIRE TO LEARN.
If you really want to start learning, I am more than willing to talk it out and recommend great reading materials.
But just because you believe shit to be the way you believe it to be is not enough for me to waste my time in a debate.
Hope you keep reading and learning and that one day you have eyes to see and ears to hear.
Here is a blog post I wrote a couple years ago as a brief introduction to the concept of systemic racism. It should provide a good starting point for your journey.
Committed to fighting white supremacy and racial oppression,
